Calculate Your GPA

Enter your courses, credits, and grades to calculate your grade point average. Our calculator uses the standard 4.0 scale used by most US colleges and universities.

GPA Scale

  • A (4.0): Excellent
  • B (3.0): Good
  • C (2.0): Average
  • D (1.0): Below Average
  • F (0.0): Failing

How GPA Works

Your GPA is calculated by multiplying each course grade's point value by the number of credits, summing these "quality points," and dividing by total credits.

Example Calculation

Math (3 credits, A = 4.0): 3 × 4.0 = 12 quality points
English (3 credits, B = 3.0): 3 × 3.0 = 9 quality points
History (3 credits, B+ = 3.3): 3 × 3.3 = 9.9 quality points
Total: 30.9 quality points ÷ 9 credits = 3.43 GPA

Tips for Improving Your GPA

  • Focus on classes with more credit hours—they have more impact
  • Retake classes if your school replaces the grade
  • Take advantage of extra credit opportunities
  • Seek help early when struggling in a class

Frequently Asked Questions

How is GPA calculated?

GPA = Total Grade Points ÷ Total Credits. Each grade has a point value (A=4.0, B=3.0, etc.) which is multiplied by the course credits to get grade points.

What is a good GPA?

A 3.0 GPA (B average) is considered good. 3.5+ is very good, and 3.7+ is excellent. Requirements vary by school and program.

Do all schools use the same GPA scale?

Most US schools use a 4.0 scale, but some use different scales or include plus/minus grades. Some weighted GPAs can exceed 4.0 for honors courses.
